We delight in welcoming you to our home and into our family. It will be fun learning your culture and customs and will share ours with you, if you’d like. Our former guests are like family to us. We keep in touch and have visited them in our travels. Our guests have come from these countries: Italy, France, England, Germany, Kenya, Uganda, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, China, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Australia, Mexico and Canada. We have hosted since 1992 and taught a weekly course - American Culture and English Language - to international students and scholars attending the University of California, Berkeley. We enjoy learning from others and sharing our home. Having fun, laughing and enjoying good food are some of our favorite things to do. I love to cook and welcome learning cuisines from your culture. My meals are well balance and always include a healthy portion of fresh fruits and vegetables, carbohydrates (usually potatoes, rice and/or breads), and protein (beef, pork, chicken, fish, shrimp, tofu). I love to bake so there are always treats for dessert or snacks. My husband is a retired pilot and currently works in San Francisco in technology. I am currently a student working towards a second career. I love gardening, decorating, sewing, cooking and painting. We both love being outside, watching/participating in sports, hiking, camping and going to local events and festivals. Alameda is an island in the San Francisco Bay with draw bridges connecting to Oakland. We are centrally located to everything in the Bay Area; San Francisco, Oakland and the train system that is called BART travels to many other cities, including Berkeley. There are bus stops just 250 feet from our house and Uber/Lyft are also readily available for transportation. I am willing to help you understand our transportation system including traveling with you, if needed at first, so you feel comfortable and understand how to get around. Street parking is available if you own a car. There are many beaches, restaurants, bars, shops, a movie theater, parks, events, fairs and concerts within walking distance from our home. Your privacy is our desire, but we are available if you have questions or need help. Our past guests considered us as “mom and dad” and we keep in contact with them, but that is also your choice. House rules are simple and we are flexible; respect our home, treat one another as you would like to be treated, relax and enjoy your stay in the beautiful Bay Area. We welcome you to enjoy our home and community. References from our former guests are available at your request.

The students need to have a caring host while away from their own home. It is very important for me to make feel as part of my family. My name is Tetchie. I am originally from Japan and moved to San Francisco 16 years ago. I started to host students. I find it very educational and fun to know the different cultures and interests of the students. Former students come again, new students extend their stay. I have hosted students coming from Japan, South Korea, Chile, Argentina, Madrid, Italy, Thailand and Russia. Currently, My students interact well with each other and are very happy. The bedrooms are all private with a mini fridge, closet, a mounted 32" TV and electric fireplace, dimmable lights, equipped with high speed Wi-Fi. My place is very cozy and chic. There is a tea area roofed with flexy glass if students wish to study privately or even choose to study in the well-tailored garden adjacent to rooms. Please see the pictures that I have provided but, if you want some other photos, let me know. I live alone, no pets. I only have 1 daughter who is a nurse. She lives in a distant city, which makes me pay her a limited visit. I like to dine outside and invite students to join me and also invite them to different social functions if their private time permits. I also like to travel. Japan and Hawaii are my favorite places to go for a short week's break. My home is half block away to the nearest bus stop, 10 minutes by bus to the Bart station which leads to SF downtown. There are various grocery stores, restaurants, banks, pharmacy that can be reached within a minutes' walk. Neighbors are friendly and welcoming. Please do not hesitate to write me back if there are some inquiries that you may have. I will be happy to help. Best regards!

Hello my name is Margarita and my homestay is in Daly City. I have a lovely single bedroom in a quiet and picturesque neighborhood. I am a bay area artist that has travelled and taught, performed for diverse audiences. When I was performing I travelled to Cuba and Brazil furthering my education in folkloric dance and song. After having worked in the San Francisco Unified School District with various districts, I was injured so I dedicate myself to video production now and not so much performing. I still travel when I can. I'd like to homestay because I'd like to give students from different countries the opportunity to have a safe place they can call home while they are away from home. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about the changing world around me and sharing with new individuals will give me the boost to continue traveling. I am divorced but my family lives close by and do occasionally drop by. I have a black female cat Raven. She's no longer a kitten and warms up to the people that stay with us. Although I am injured I do try to keep mobile, I go to the gym everyday. I work part-time and am social. I have lunches or gatherings with some friends occasionally. My rules of the house : no overnight guests, clean up after yourself in bathroom and the kitchen, laundry is done once a week we have a water shortage in California.
